문화사에 대한 접근법에 있어 자료에 대한 충실한 이해의 중요성은 아무리 강조해도 부족함이 없음에도 불구하고 자료에 대한 성찰과 분석이라는 학문적 연구에 가장 기초적이고 필수적인 작업은 그 본래 가치에 비해 다소 소홀히 취급되는 경향이 있습니다.
한국학연구원에서는 "조선시대 문화사 자료의 재발견"이라는 주제로 2022년 한국학 국제학술대회를 기획하며, 한국학 자료에 대한 충실한 이해를 도모하고 그간 학계에서 산발적으로 다루어졌던 조선 문화사 자료의 발굴과 그 의의에 대한 관심을 촉발하는 계기를 만들고자 합니다. 이를 통해 조선의 사회-문화사 연구의 기반이 되는 연구 자원에 한층 더 깊이 접근하는 한편, 자료 및 연구 자원에 대한 새로운 해석과 관점 구성을 시도하고자 합니다. 문화사의 연구대상은 학문, 예술, 사상, 정치, 경제와 같은 문화와 제도 뿐만 아니라 일상과 풍속을 아우르는 생활 문화를 포괄하며, 사물, 자원, 공간과 물질 문화로도 확장될 수 있습니다.
본 학술대회는 한국학 자료의 재발견을 통해 조선 문화사 자료에 대한 관심을 고조시키고 기존의 학제적 틀을 초월하여 자료를 바탕으로 한 학제간 연구를 도모하고자 합니다. 따라서 학술대회에 참가한 발표자들은 다양한 문화연구 자원을 문헌, 기록, 저술에서부터 사물과 경험, 기술, 관습 등에 이르는 논제를 바탕으로 조선 사회와 문화에 대한 한층 더 심화된 이해를 도모하며 공유하는 것을 목표로 합니다. 또한, 학술대회에서 다루어지는 국내외 자료 발견과 교류를 통해 앞으로의 후속 연구를 위한 새로운 토대를 마련할 수 있을 것으로 기대합니다. 아무쪼록 많은 관심과 참여를 부탁드립니다.
It is impossible to overemphasize the importance of a full understanding of source texts in humanities research, an understanding which encompasses not only language and content but also embraces questions of production, circulation, consumption, recycling, and reproduction. Conceived in this way, sources not only represent an external culture but also constitute a culture in their own right. Academia Koreana at Keimyung University is planning an international conference with the working title "Sources of Culture, Culture of Sources" so as to reflect upon the state of the field of Chosŏn cultural history and to seek a fuller understanding of the dynamic interactions of sources and methods. Through this intentional reconnection with the sources and their cultures, we seek to provide opportunities to expand and create new venues of research not only through the discovery of novel sources but also through the reframing of well-known sources so that they may be known anew. The invited scholars will be asked to explore various sources and resources of cultural texts and practice of Chosŏn Korea and offer explanations and frameworks for doing research in cultural studies, crossing over disciplinary boundaries. Through the lenses of rediscovery and reframing, we seek to engage cultural history broadly understood, from existing interdisciplinary frameworks like history, literature, arts, material culture, and archaeology conventionally understood, to considerations of the everyday, to expand inquiry from grand political and diplomatic histories to histories of the ordinary, of the everyday, to oral histories and microhistories, all in attempt to establish analyses and perspectives on primary sources in which the lofty and quotidian are couched within one another so as to engage in a scholarship more fully inclusive of the greater swath of human experience. The 2022 Keimyung International Conference on Korean Studies hopes to serve as a venue for scholars, researchers, students, to discuss diverse, dynamic, and interdisciplinary nature of Korean studies and bring new awareness to the significance of source materials, vital and crucial in both teaching and research.
